Heat Stroke --
It can be a killer!
Don't Let Your Dog Get Overheated!

Summer has arrived and depending upon where you live it can get very, very hot. Many of you probably don't realize that your dog can overheat and suffer heatstroke.

While we humans can't wait for summer and all the fun it brings, as far as your four legged friend with the wiggly tail is concerned, summer time means hot weather, long runs, hot cars, and long, anxious stays in kennels while you are away on  vacation. Frankly, dogs are not designed to take the heat.

So, you need to be a responsible pet owner when it comes to heat and your dog. All it takes is a little thought, some common sense and knowledge of your pet's needs.

Dogs cool off by panting because they can't sweat. As soon as the temperature outside reaches about 99 degrees, which is about the same as your dog's internal temperature, panting no longer cools. So, you can understand how dogs rapidly overheat on summer days. Overheated dogs drool and begin to look uncomfortable. If they can't cool down, they could suffer from a heat stroke. If it reaches this point, the dog is subject to organ failure and even death.

Help prevent heat stroke by making sure your pet stays cool. Provide shelter from the sun's heat by keeping your pet inside in the air conditioning. Don't take your dog with you if you decide to spend the day at the beach unless you can provide shade and plenty of fresh water.

Never ever leave your dog in a parked car. Parked cars, even when parked in the shade with partially opened windows, can become a furnace in minutes. Vehicle interiors can rapidly heat up to over 40 degrees above the outside temperature. For instance, on an 80-degree day, the inside of your car can easily reach 120 degrees. No pet can survive that heat.

Don't leave your dog tied under a tree. The tree's shade will rapidly disappear as the sun moves across the sky.

Dogs should have access to cold, fresh water at all times. A dog on a hike or walk needs rest and should be given water every 15 minutes. Dogs will literally run with you until they drop from heatstroke. They do not have the common sense to stop when they are overheated and you may not notice until it's too late. So you need to monitor your dog.

Also limit your dog's play during the hottest periods of day. Allow only responsible children to play with the dog during high heat periods. Some children may not notice when the dog is overheating.

Heatstroke is easier to prevent than treat. Watch for the signs. If you see your dog panting excessively, drooling, acting fatigued, anxious or wobbly, he may be overheating. As your dog gets warmer, signs of an impending heatstroke may occur.  Symptoms include a rapid heart rate. Nose, legs, and ears that are hot to the touch, diarrhea, and a swollen tongue. If your pet
shows any signs of overheating, immediately stop all exertion, offer cool water, and find a cool place to rest. If not treated immediately, an animal that is overheating can suffer from heatstroke. A dog with heatstroke can lapse into a coma and die. And, I don't think that you will ever forgive yourself if that should happen.

Heatstroke is considered an emergency that must be treated immediately. Stop whatever you are doing and move the animal to a cool, shaded place. Offer tiny amounts of cold water if your dog is conscious and can swallow. Do not force your dog to drink and do not try to give water to an unconscious pet. Cover your dog's body with cool water and place ice packs around the body and head. Wrap the ice or ice packs in a towel so that the ice is not in direct contact with the body. Placing ice directly against an overheated dog could confuse the dog's internal thermostat and may actually delay cooling.

As soon as this initial treatment is completed, take your dog immediately to a veterinary hospital. Emergency care is necessary for recovery.

Be proactive and use common sense and prevent overheating and heatstroke from happening in the first place by keeping your dog cool, well rested, and with access to water. If you do this, you'll both have a great fun-filled summer.

Castaño is much better now, see.....

This doggie is found by people in El Rosario and it took them a long time to catch him but now they have took him in a garden and had the chance to take him into Triple A.This doggie we called Castaño is a very sad doggie because he has his collar MUCH to tight and its entirely in his skin and in the meat!.We had to make him a little bit at sleep first before we could cut the collar away. His neck is open from ear to ear and this collar must be there like that for a VERY LONG time. But he will make it and we take very good care of poor Castaño.I will update his story very soon! Do not forget this poor fellow, his name is Castaño and his number is 16699. When he is recoverd he is open for adoption, in the mean time we need financial support for him!

If you like to support him, we can do that on the website and if you want with your name also! For that please contact info@aaahelps.com

Last Saturday the 7th November, 2009, Triple A held an Extraordinary General Meeting in order to elect the new Committee.  In a friendly and cordial atmosphere, Mr. Javier Peromino Jimez was elected President, Miss Andrea Demmler,  Vice President, Miss Nuria Bueno Secretary and Mr Rafael Escriña Plaza as Treasurer.

The meeting was conducted by Mr. Jan Weima, one of the founder members of our Association back in 1992, from now on Jan will be the Public Relations Officer of the Triple A and will take care of  Press Releases and Radio and T.V. Presentations.

Eighty of the members were present at the Extraordinary General Meeting and during the meeting we took the opportunity to personally thank various members and volunteers, which were as follows.-

Firstly, our sincere thanks to Javier Peromino who has been the key person, and without him we would not have achieved what we did.  Also, of course, our thanks go to his supportave girlfriend, Fatima.

A special mention for Mr. Romano Miedinger, who made a donation of  €3.000. to the Association and also sincere thanks to Mrs. Elsa Buerhaus, who donated a cheque of €2.500 for the outstanding payment of our industrial washing machine, our President negotiated with the shop for a quick settlement and achieved a €500. discount.  He then wanted to give Mrs. Buerhaus the €500. but she kindly wanted to use that money to pay for the insurance on the van belonging to the association.  Mrs. Buerhaus also gave us a  further cheque of €500. to settle an outstanding amount on an invoice which was presented by the Lawyer Mr. Manolo Alba.

We would also like to make a special mention to the Lawyers office of Mr. Salvador

Guerrero for making us such a special discount for his fees.  Mr. Salvador Guerrero is now the official Lawyer of Triple A.

We would also like to mention Mrs. Esther Schlze for the help with her Lawyer.

Lastly a special mention for Susana, Ana, Nuria, Andrea, Bettine, Sol, Shirley, Ana Marques, Pili, Ángeles, Elizabet and Margot for all their help and negotiation with Acosol on the subject of the water and also our Vet Michele.

Thank you to everybody for their kind assistance, help and donations.  Our priority now is to forget what has happened in the past and concentrate on a positive future.

Finally it was a pleasure when Hans Wohl
could hand over the cheque of €
1.260,00 to Javier Peromingo, who is now
the new President of the animal rescue shelter
Triple A.

He made it !!!

dierenasiel Triple A in Marbella/Ojen gaat lopen.

in Spanje bent.

Vriendelijke groet,

Clarie Wohl-Morks

Unfortunately we had to put to sleep dear Jaguar.
We could see no progress and in fact ,despite all our efforts we spent on this beautiful dog,
it went even worse every time.
With pain in our heart all of us have said farewell to a very special and lovely dog
who had so much bad luck in his young life.

Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best, an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond, and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now to a warm and living light.
I want to go, I really do; it's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid, because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that, and hope you'll always know,
That my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me. You know I love you too,
And that's why it's hard to say goodbye and end this life with you.
So hold me now just one more time and let me hear you say,
Because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.

 for this great picture
Meet: Chuqui,Sancho,Ramona,Hector
and Canela who is reserved now.

This is the story of a little dog whom nobody was aware of.

We gave her the name "Little Star"

This old lady has been found in the bushes of the soccerfield of Marbella
last Saturday the 3rd. of January.
She must have been lying there for quite a while and nobody seemed to miss
her.!
She is / was an old lady who was suffering a lot and was exposed to the
cold and was even lying in the rain.
She even had mud in her mouth, was completely dehydrated and more dead
than alive......but her hart was still beating.
She..."Little Star" had in fact already given up but was found by a real
animal lover who brought her to the animal asylum Triple A in Marbella.
Unfortunately "Little Star" was to weak to survive and we have send her to
the Dog Heaven in a humane way so that she did not had to suffer more days
in the mud, bushes and cold at the soccerfield of Marbella.

This story is meant to ask your attention for animals lying in abandened
in terrible cicumstances with the hope that if you see them you will take
them to the nearest asylum of animals.

Happily the roof of the shelter Triple A is now waterproof and sealed.
The next step is to secure the apartment of the chief of cleaning, Christobal,
who has been living there for many years with his wife and six children!
They also had many problems after the storm and heavy rainfall.
The bedroom ceiling of one of his daughters has fallen down and collapsed
on her bed, but fortunately they were not at home that day. We hope that you will
continue to help us, because there is a lot to do after this heavy rainfall!

Dear animal lovers,

The rescue center Triple A in Marbella needs urgently your help.

Due to the massive storms last week the roof of the rescue center is badly damaged.
Parts are completely destroyed and even some of the gutters have fallen of and injured
 some of the animals.
We need donations urgently in order to repair the roof so that the animals are not sitting
without any protection against the weather in their kennels. At this Stage Triple A has 380 Dogs
and 180 Cats which are in desperate need of your help.
The government does not provide us with any funds or support  and for this reason Triple A
can only survive by the donations of animal lovers, never mind how little they are. Anything will help our animals to survive until they find a loving home one day.

Please help us
