Do you give Rabies and other vaccinations at the Shelter?
Yes, we give all vaccinations through our own Veterinary Clinic.
Can I adopt and bring my puppy back for his spay/neuter surgery when he is a little older?
Our policy is that no adopted dog or cat leave the shelter until it has been spayed or neutered. Though sometimes it can happen that you want to adopt a dog or cat that still has not been sterilized or castrated just because lack of time of our veterinaries, you HAVE to make an appointment directly to come back at a later date. Also for small puppies or kittens, you have to come back to let them be sterilized or castrated as well.
Triple A is spaying and neutering all animals in an effort to stem the overpopulation of unwanted animals. Studies indicate that early spays benefit the animal, the owner, animal population control, and the veterinarian. The animal benefits because the anesthesia is fast and uneventful; surgical procedure is well tolerated and animals recover faster. If made part of the standard puppy/kitten vaccination program, it would also benefit owners by decreasing the number of veterinary office visits necessary upon acquiring a new pet.
I found a dog/cat. What should I do?
If he is wearing a collar with tags, call the phone number on the tags. If he’s not wearing one, go to the local veterinarian clinic and ask if any one has reported an animal of that description as missing, and let the veterinarian check with a scanner if the animal has a micro-chip. If the veterinarian doesn't have a scanner, call your local shelter.
If it is not possible to find the animal’s owner, please, bring the animal to us (only the Marbella /
Ojén / San Pedro de Alcántara area), or call Sanidad, tel. 952761187, they will bring the dog to our shelter.
Life on the streets is hostile and cruel for those poor animals.
Is Triple A a city-managed organization?
No, Triple A is a private non-profit organization that entirely survives through donations and membership subscriptions.
Does Triple A receive government funding?
Triple A is not not subsidised both by the local or regional authorities, our income is based on donations and some fundraising events held during the year.
Where can I find the laws that govern the care of animals in Andalucía?
We have listed the Animal Protection Law, applied November 2003, in full on our website, under the chapter Useful Information, in a .PDF file (only in Spanish).
How many animals at the shelter actually find homes?
Every day, Triple A cares for the needs of approximately 400 animals in total. We care for approximately 2000 animals annually. Approximately 80% of these animals find new homes in Spain or abroad in coöperation with other animal protection societies, and some of the animals returned to their original owners.
Does Triple A euthanize animals?
Unfortunately, we are forced sometimes to humanely euthanize animals, after they have been maltreated, or hit by a car, or whatever reason making the veterinary and the team decide that the quality of life is better for the dog or cat when he or she is going to heaven.
Voice-mail is a nightmare. How can I avoid it?
With hundreds of calls being received at Triple A each day, voicemail cannot be avoided. We have, however, listed all phone numbers of volunteers available on this web site. This will help streamline your communications. We have also added email links for your convenience.
I have knowledge of animal cruelty or neglect in my area. What should I do about it?
The public is the biggest ally in fighting animal cruelty and neglect. It is crucial that everyone gets involved and stays involved. If you witness animal cruelty, or think that you have, in our Marbella / Ojén / San Pedro de Alcántara area, call the Guardia Civil and ask for the Seprona, or call Triple A as well, or write us.
Cruelty is a felony in Andalucía, and if we all work together we can help end it. All complaints originating outside our Marbella / Ojén / San Pedro de Alcántara area should be made to the Guardia Civil or Local Police.
Who picks up dead or abandoned animals seen on the road?
